Maeva Cunci is a performer who has been part of various phases of my choreographic work since 2002. The idea of a solo that would sketch a negative portrait quickly became an obvious choice to explore a piece that moves between abstraction and figuration centered around the act of running. Here, running does not serve as a symbol of mobility or even a headlong rush, but rather as a form of revelation.
Maeva hates running, and it is with full awareness that I propose this "sprint" to her as a starting point... I aim to provoke what will circumvent and/or alter this run, conceived as a continuous bass, an almost neutral figure from which other bodily states, multiple and protean presences, would emerge, marked by the successive exhaustion of this sprint... To run until exhaustion and be reborn in the joy of a second wind.
In 2024, an in situ version without lighting and sound design was created for non-dedicated spaces (such as gymnasiums and/or dance studios)
This acoustic version, conceived in close proximity to the dancer, allows the audience to experience the vocal work—centered on breath, the rythm of running and the question of exhaustion at ist most intimate. It brings new life to a piece that Maeva Cunci has now been performing for 12 years, with a maturity marked by great poetic strength.
