Creation 2024
In ORUKAMI (oru: to fold, Kami: paper), three performers take hold of material objects originally designed to serve as survival ponchos.
They transform them and conjure up different images in turn: becoming fans, tents, rocks, pyramids, metal flowers... these makeshift garments come to life in the form of mischievous and noisy ectoplasms, characters with improbable morphologies, even surprising puppets.
Through the magic of DIY and childlike beliefs that we are more eager than ever to evoke, the diaerent lives of these precarious ponchos invite young and old alike to enjoy the poetry of marabout, string, horse saddle..

Conception Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh
Chorégraphie et interprétation Violette Angé, Alexia Bigot, Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh
Musique Olyphant
Durée 25 minutes
Production Pavillon-s, Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh
If the venue can be darkened, this is an advantage for the lighting effects (one LED bar placed on the floor, provided by the company), but it is not essential.
Pavillon-s offers a range of artistic activities alongside performances of ORUKAMI:
Workshops for all audiences (parents and children, or children only), lasting 1 to 1.5 hours, held after the performances. Participants are invited to explore the different ways of manipulating the ponchos, as seen in the show.
Workshops in primary and secondary schools (for example, school residency projects combining performances at the school with a week of workshops, culminating in a final presentation).
Adaptation of the performance for amateur dancers, through workshops and rehearsals (for example, at Le Théâtre – Scène Nationale de Saint-Nazaire, with 13 amateur female dancers).
For our productions aimed at children, we like to give each child a small, original keepsake from the performance.
For ORUKAMI, we invited visual artist Anette Lenz to design a paper fortune teller that children can make themselves, featuring playful dance instructions.
A very short video tutorial below shows how to make it.
The paper fortune teller (printed on A4 paper) is given to children after the performance, or to teachers during school performances. It offers a way to extend the experience beyond the show and encourage children to explore movement and create their own choreographic games.
