Creation 2020, for all ages from 7 years old
La forêt de glace (The Ice Forest) is a climatic piece in which video images, music (composed and performed live and in full view), the text (adapted from the novel Le Palais de glace [The Ice Palace] by the Norwegian author Tarjei Vesaas) and dance meet to create an event, part cine-concert and part live performance.
“In a mythical landscape shaped by the intense cold and ice, at the heart of the endless Norwegian fall season, two young girls meet, discover each other and learn about each other. Siss and Unn, Unn and Siss. Of contrasting personalities, they are drawn inexorably to each other, confusing and perturbing each other even, until one evening they are gazing into the same mirror and decide to make a pact, an indestructible and unexplainable connection, as strong as ice crystals and as powerful as the ice palace frozen at the base of the waterfall. But then the next day, Unn disappears…”
For this new young audiences piece, the choreographer focuses on the poetry in the language of Tarjei Vesaas, a major part of this initiatory novel in which the mystery, the intrigue is not the primary focus, rather it is a free adaptation of other parts of the novel: are Siss and Unn two girls? Or are they the evocation of a single girl who observes the child in her disappearing in order that she transforms into a young woman?
Vesaas’ writing is filled with sweeping Nordic landscapes, celebrating a natural fairyland of cristalline sounds, using clear yet profound words.
